Summerfield Sales Success
With a wealth of experience in the Thoroughbred business, the Vanlangendonck's have developed Summerfield Sales into the #1 Florida-based consignor of yearlings, weanlings and broodmares. In 2008, Summerfield again led Florida in sales of weanlings and broodmares and the 171 yearlings they sold for $6.5-million, led all Florida-based consignors and again placed the agency among the national leaders.
These numbers reflect the success enjoyed by horses sold by Summerfield at the races, and in 2008 Summerfield ranked seventh nationally in graded stakes winners offered for sale. In fact, since the beginning of 2004, Summerfield has sold 188 stakes horses, 101 of which won stakes races. Twenty-one were graded stakes winners including six grade one winners.
In 2008, Denis of Cork, sold at the 2006 OBS August Sale, won Oaklawn’s Southwest Stakes (G3) and was on the board in both the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1).
This year, Big City Man, sold at same OBS Sale, won the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1), the world’s richest sprint race, and seven other Summerfield graduates have won stakes races. In 2008, there were four grades stakes winners among the 47 Summerfield horses who won or placed in stakes, led by Vosburgh Stakes (G1) winner Black Seventeen.
